Introducing Asa Jay Berberich

It’s late now, and we’ve had a busy couple of days, but I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce you to the latest member of the Berberich family: Asa Jay.

Asa was born 3:03 pm Sunday afternoon after we narrowly avoided having him in the car as we raced to the hospital from our home in Thompson. We sped into the emergency entrance at 2:55 and Asa was born just eight short minutes later. He’s a big boy too – 9lbs 12oz at birth.

Both mom and baby are doing pretty well. We’re spending an extra night at the hospital for Asa though, as he apparently has something called transient tachypnea of the newborn. Basically, because Asa’s delivery was so short, he still had extra fluid in his lungs that would normally have been squeezed out. This leads to rapid breathing and some other symptoms. They’re not too worried about Asa, but they just want to monitor him for one more night before sending him home.

Here are a few photos from Asa’s first couple of days. I actually forgot our camera at home when we left so quickly, but thankfully a friend let us borrow hers until I was able to run back home Sunday evening. You’ll always be able to find the newest ones up on my Flickr page.
