I have respected Governor Bill Richardson for a while now – even during my hardcore Republican years. He’s the John McCain of Democrats, which I consider to be a good thing.
Richardson is easily the most qualified Democratic candidate as of yet. He spent time in the State Department early in his career, served in the Senate for 14 years, served as U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. and Secretary of Energy under Clinton, and has been New Mexico’s governor since 2003. Beat that Barack.
Even with all of Governor Richardson’s experience, I’m not going to hold my breath. The Daily Kos and Democratic Underground crowds aren’t exactly pining for a moderate, so it’ll take a lot of hard work for him to gain traction.
The Republican candidates so far? Completely uninteresting. Brownback? Cox? Please. I can hear the jokes starting already…
