I’ve been getting InfoWorld magazine for several years now, and have grown to respect the opinion of their columnists and reviews. For this reason, I was happy to see #18 in their article titled The Top 20 IT Mistakes: Underestimating PHP. “Serious” programmers have long dismissed PHP as the “Visual Basic” of the web, meaning it is not a “real” programming language that should be used for serious tasks. As this InfoWorld article says, there is definately a place for PHP and other scripting languages in enterprise IT. Friendster, Flickr, and Yahoo prove that large, heavily used applications can be written in PHP and still have good performance.
