High Turnout in Grand Forks Yesterday

According to the Grand Forks Herald, voter turnout was historically high yesterday. The county commissioner estimates that more than 25,000 people voted in Grand Forks county. For a reference, the U.S. Census data for Grand Forks County lists a 2003 population of just under 65,000 people.

I wasn’t able to find data sliced by precinct on the North Dakota Secretary of State election results page, but it was very heavy at our location. Casey got in line right after work at 4:00 pm and didn’t get back home until after 7:30. I’ve never seen anything like that before, and I suspect few people from this area have. I heard from a classmate today that our voting location was the last to close in the state, but I haven’t been able to find any info to back that up. I could easily believe it though!
