Flickr added the ability for Pro members to upload video last week, so I decided to give it a shot. They, wisely in my opinion, decided to limit videos to 90 seconds, which seems appropriate in the context of viewing photos. Here’s the video of AJ that I took this morning.

I like the end result when posting to Flickr. It’s clean, simply, and quick to upload and view. I’m a huge fan of Vimeo though, so for now I’m still planning on posting most of my videos over there.

Asa Jay @ 3 Months

Last weekend at my brother-in-law’s wedding, I had several family members mention that I haven’t posted anything on Asa since he was born back in July. Too true. I’ve had some photos sitting on the camera for awhile now, and will finally be able to get some posted to my Flickr account later.

In the mean time, I took a short video on the camera that I want to share with you!

Just wanted to put a new post up before heading to bed for the evening. First, here’s a video I took of Kael after dinner. He just learned the baby sign for bath, and it’s pretty cute:

Second, I’m not quite sure how many of you knew, but Casey and I are expecting again — mid July. We had our ultrasound a week ago, and I finally got it scanned into the computer tonight. We decided to not find out the sex again, just like with Kael. Everything is looking great!

Kael Update

Sorry for the lack of updates — it’s been a busy few days, as you can probably imagine. Because Kael is a preemie, it took him a little while to figure out the whole eating thing, which was a concern for the first couple of days. We spent hours the first nights feeding him drops of milk from a syringe which, while a long process, at least provided us with a little comfort in knowing he was getting some nurishment. The doctors discharged Casey from the hospital Saturday afternoon, but moved Kael to the pediatric wing a few doors down from where we were staying. The three of us stayed in the room Saturday night and, feeling a lot more comfortable, finally made it home late Sunday afternoon.

This morning we took Kael in for what we thought would be a quick five minute weight checkup at the clinic. It turned out to be closer to an hour. Besides checking his weight (he’s gaining!), they also had to draw some blood from his heel to check for jaundice. It appears that he is a little yellow, but the nurse didn’t seem very concerned since he’s now eating well and has lots of wet and dirty diapers.

Kael has been great the last couple of days at home. Our main issue right now is that since he doesn’t get the concept of night and day, he likes to be awake at exactly the time we want to be sleeping. So, we’ve had a couple of almost sleepless nights, although I can safely say that I’ve managed to get more than Casey because of the feedings. Today we started making some changes and starting a routine which will hopefully get him on a schedule more like ours. So far, that has meant keeping him awake longer after eating and rearranging his feeding times a bit. Time will tell if it works!

Introducing Kael Roman Berberich

Casey and I would like you to meet our new family member, Kael Roman Berberich. He arrived today, November 3rd 2005, at 11:36 am. He is 6 pounds, 12 ounces, and 19 inches long. He was born a few days shy of 37 weeks, so he’s just a little guy. He’s also the most beautiful baby I’ve ever seen. I honestly wasn’t expecting a boy, so this was a very nice surprise!

Casey was amazing throughout the labor and delivery. I was in awe at how well she did and how hard she worked. It was a truly unforgettable experience.

Sorry this is so short, but I’m off to the hospital again to spend the night with Casey and Kael. Altru apparently doesn’t have internet access for guests, so we’re somewhat isolated when that’s combined with the no cell phones rule. Hopefully I’ll have more details once we’re home and after I’ve gotten a few hours of sleep!

It’s Baby Time!

Well, turns out I was a bit off last week with my “one more month” comment! Casey and I actually went to the hospital earlier this evening due to some steady contractions. After about three hours of observation, walking the hallways, and exams, they let us know that we should expect to stay the night.

Neither of us expected this to happen tonight, so I had to go back home to get our bags (where I’m posting this from). I’m expecting it to be a long night, so I don’t know when my next update will be. I’ll promise you this though: when I post next, there will be pictures!

Only One More Month…

That’s right — our due date is only one month away from today! It’s hard to believe how fast the pregnancy has gone, but thankfully we’re slowly getting things ready. We picked up the dresser/changing table from Sears this weekend (no assembly required this time) and got our crib mattress on Friday, so I think we’ve done as much as we can in the nursery right now. The second baby shower is happening this weekend here in Grand Forks, so that will most likely mean a lot more stuff to organize.

If I remember correctly, I think we’ve only got a couple more classes at the hospital before the arrival. I’m attending a “daddy boot camp” on Saturday morning to get some advice and encouragement from recent new dads. A few of my friends in Grand Forks have attended and found it helpful, so I’m looking forward to it. We went to the birthing class last weekend, which was better than both of us expected. The instructor taught us some Lamaze breathing, but Casey has done her research and likes the Bradley Method philosophy, so we didn’t spend too much time practicing the somewhat funny breathing patterns.

So, while things are getting done and falling into place, time has gone really fast. I don’t expect the final month to slow down any, so before we know it, Baby Berbs will be here!
